The MA, Andalucia’s Museum of Memory, Granada, Spain

Attached here are photos from a recent visit to Campo Baeza’s recently completed “MA” in Granada, Spain. It is adjacent to his 2001 building, inaccessible to the public, the Caja Granada (damn).

There are some beautiful photos on his website if mine don’t suffice.

What is interesting is that the proportions of the elliptical courtyard are borrowed from the courtyard of the Palace of Charles V in the Alhambra, of which I posted a photo of in my previous post.

A “strong vertical piece” sits close to the freeway that leads into Granada. At the top of this is a restaurant worth having a meal at.  What is fantastic about this space is that it is a completely unsupported by columns, and the building above acts as a giant beam spanning between the two service cores at either end of the structure.
