The Impending Rebirth of Media
Rumours have been circulating for some time of an Apple tablet hitting the markets in 2010. This isn’t that new. Amazon’s kindle book reader has been on the market for some time. Though it was recently noted that publishing houses have been approached to create content for these new devices.
Take a look at this tablet based Sports Illustrated issue demo. All of the content is completely dynamic, and advertisements can also be videos. A completely interactive magazine. It’d be great to be able to comment on articles as well.
Media companies will have access to a massive amount of marketing data from users; from IP addresses showing location to feedback that can be directed to their servers.
Online music stores and publishers will become the news agencies of the future, meaning iTunes and amazon will be selling magazines as well as movies, music, applications, tv shows, books etc.etc.etc. The list goes on.
Though an interesting point made in the comment section on the youtube link was how many of these devices do we need? Most already have a notebook/netbook pc, a phone, a media player and now…? I suppose this just enhances the users experience. Power cords need to become universal for media players though. The amount of cabling for chargers is getting a little stupid and eliminates the convenience when travelling.
