The wireless network- A short formal study.

After recently attaching to a wireless network, I opened iTunes. All of a sudden I had access to over 30 different Music libraries, all holding vast quantities of music. My machine had identified over 30 different repositories of data sourced from my immediate surroundings.

weak signal - disjointed networks

This got me thinking about the wireless network as a formal construct. An invisible informatic dome. When you step into it an invisible layering of information saturates you. Though you need an electronic device to see it. All around us are evolving, animate bubbles of infinitely accessible data at the local and the web level.

medium signal - starting to connect

The following diagrams show a non-specific shell, based on the blob (metaball software). A wireless transmitter in the scenario exhibited would be at the centrepoint of the sphere and disperse a spherical data shell. Small inflections and deformations in the spherical data shell would be created from the data shell’s surroundings (climatic conditions, built objects, other context, reflection, refraction of the signal). The size and shape of these formal constructs is a by-product of the signal strength and the technology associated with the transmitter.

strong signal - overlapping and molding
